The full digital prosthesis 4.0
The tools and technologies at our disposal today allow us to “virtualize” the patient: intraoral scanners, facial scanners, cone beam CT and the detection of mandibular movements allow pre-visualization and planning of prosthetic work that was unthinkable years ago, but the transition from CAD to CAM and the result obtained with completely digital flows are not, to date, still 100% valid and predictable in all types of reconstruction. The clinical case that we will present will highlight the digital flows and skills available and the related critical issues, paying particular attention to removable prostheses where analogue knowledge and skills still have consolidated protocols to be considered as absolute quality reference parameters. Furthermore, the “new” operating protocols must not ignore our analogue knowledge, which is always fundamental for the success of an excellent prosthetic reconstruction. We will also evaluate whether the technology is able to accelerate prosthetic processes, facilitating and reducing the number of sessions and the duration of the sessions themselves.
